Child, Adolescent and Family Psychotherapist.
Animal assisted Therapist.
Background Information:
After many years of teaching in the art field, I realised that I was more interested in why children were unable to learn than why they were achieving. Therefore, I decided to retrain as a play therapist and a Child, Adolescent and Family Creative Arts Psychotherapist specialising in Art and Sand therapy in the South East of England.
Often the verbal recounting of the trauma can be as traumatic as the event itself and so I specialise in non – verbal communication through the ‘transitional object’ of play and creative arts. The young person is supported at their own pace as their stories unfold until they are able to verbalise their thoughts and feelings on the conscious level.
Since 1996, I have specialised in working with Looked After Children and their families who meet the criteria for PTSD with additional complex needs. The work has often incorporated Life Story Work with the compilation of the Life Story Book. I am currently studying the Rose Model Therapeutic Life Story Work. The client base is therefore foster, adopted children and those residing in children’s homes in Kent, Sussex and London.
